Video: Marc Dyos remembers his great-uncles Charles and Ernest Dyos

In this highly personal video, Marc Dyos visits Chertsey to talk about his great-uncles Charles and Ernest Dyos who both served in France during the Great War.

The lives of Charles and Ernest Dyos, the two oldest in a family of seven children, were destined to be relatively short. In contrast, their five younger siblings, Elizabeth, John, Edward (Marc’s grandfather), George, and Mildred lived into their 80s and 90s. All five brothers were in the British Army at some point between 1914 and 1945.  

In telling the stories of Charles and Ernest, Marc goes to what was the entrance to White Hart Yard where the family lived in a four-room cottage, to 129 Guildford Street where Ernest worked at Morton’s boot shop, to the garden behind St Peter’s Church, and to the Chertsey Town War Memorial.
